Kentucky Bourbon House History
The Kentucky Bourbon House is located within Chapeze Mansion in Bardstown, Kentucky. This historic home was built in 1787 by Dr. Henri Chapeze one of fourteen French army officers to accompany Marquis Lafayette to America in 1777 to join General George Washington commanding the Continental Army. The following year France sided with America against the British and as a result America defeated the British, becoming an independent nation.

Dr. Henri Chapeze served in the Continental Army for the duration of the war, Dr. Chapeze was honored all the days of his life for his service to the American Revolution. Dr. Chapezecame to Bardstown in 1787, practiced medicine at Chapeze Mansion until 1810. His grandsons, Ben and Adam Chapeze founded the Chapeze Distillery in 1856 producing Old Charter Bourbon, a true ante-bellum Kentucky Bourbon giving Chapeze Mansion the name “Kentucky’s Home for Bourbon.”
